In case you’ve been boycotting technology for the past year, minimalism is the current trend in logo design. Just about every brand imaginable is flattening their logo. It’s time to say “adios” to the shadows, bulges and inset letters of the 2000s and “hola” to the simplicity of 2013. In case you aren’t convinced of the trend, look at iOS7. The highly anticipated software update has a flat interface and redesigned apps. App developers and brands with an app want to blend seamlessly with the new operating system, so this leaves everyone with one choice: jump on the design bandwagon.
Thinking about joining in? We have some tips to keep your logo lookin’ fabulous.
Flat Doesn’t Mean “Blah”
Sure, there are some really boring logos out there, but that doesn’t mean yours has to be. Here’s some proof.
Typography Is King
With the extra “bling” gone, typography carries most of the logo’s weight. It’s the perfect time to break out your favorite font.
Show Some Color Love
Minimalism doesn’t necessarily nix cool color choices. If anything, color is even more important. Black, white AND flat? Can you say, “BORING?” Of course, black and white can still work, but color kicks a logo up a notch.
So what do you think of the trend? Thoughts on the next direction for logo design?
