Freelance Designer to Small Studio Owner

Posted on February 11, 2013

At times it feels like I've been in business for myself for years, but in reality it's only been about a year and a half since I opened the doors at Kiwi Creative. But in those past 18 months, I've had a crash course in small business ownership that would rival any MBA program. And as much as I'd like to think that I had my shit together since day #1, in reality I made more than my fair share of mistakes along the way. The important thing? I learned (and am still learning!) from them.

That's why I'm happy to announced that I'll be speaking at CFC 2013 on June 23, 2013 (part of the HOW Design Live event in San Francisco) on a panel called "Freelancers Speak on Their Best Business Practices." There, I'll be giving my 10-minute spiel about, what else…"How I F***ed Up as a New Freelancer."

While I can't give away my entire presentation in advance, I did recently write a guest blog post on the Creative Freelancer Blog that talks about one thing I did RIGHT when starting up my own business. Want to know what that was? Read about it here.
